O’Hill Updates!

There are some new and exciting things afoot at O’Hill this spring!  If you’ve been enjoying the Classic Craveables up to now, you’re in for even more of a treat.  O’Hill is introducing updated Craveables and other menu items with an eye towards healthy eating, so you can get all the flavor you’re used to without sacrificing nutrition.

Here’s what to expect throughout each week:


BURGERevolution [at the Hoo Street Grill at lunch].  Featuring two delicious veggie burgers each week with equally tasty toppings!


Charlottesville Cheeseteak Factory [at lunch].  Philly Cheesesteak with a twist, including Pulled Pork Philly (shredded pork with green peppers, onions, and mushrooms); Monster Philly (shredded chicken and chopped beef with green peppers, onions, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese); Chicken Philly (shredded chicken with green peppers, onions, and cheddar cheese); Beefy Philly (chopped beef with green peppers, onions, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese); Veggie Philly (Green Peppers, onions, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese); or Naked (onions and cheddar cheese).

Hot Pot [at Innovations at dinner].  Dining shows you the variety that can come out a wok, including Singapore Swing (Tofu and wok-friend green beans over brown rice); Samuri Beef (Szechuan beef with Asian stir fry vegetables over white rice); Ko Phi Phi (Thai chicken with green curry sauce over rice noodles); and Tokyo Express (Sesame chicken with Asian stir fry vegetables with choice of rice or noodle); Rising Sun (Sweet chili pork with broccoli stir fry over brown rice).


Oat of this World [at Center Stage at breakfast].  Oatmeal has never been this delicious – and judging by the line at this station, your classmates will second that.  Enjoy toppings like blueberries, dried cranberries, peanut butter, bananas, and granola (to name a few) as you get your day started with a boost of flavor and energy!


Savoring Italy [at Hoo Street Grill at lunch].  We’re taking bruschetta to a whole new level!  Try the Mont Blanc (Herb roasted chicken with sun-dried tomato pesto, Kalamata olives, and Asiago cheese); the Sicilian (Tomato, basil, and buffalo mozzarella topped with a balsamic glaze); The Vesuvius (roasted Portobello and red peppers with feta cheese on arugula); the Genoa (Capicolla ham, Prosciutto, ham, and pepperoni with fresh spiced tomato compote, mozzarella cheese, and banana peppers); or the Ferrari (Crab alfredo, spinach, sweet peppers, and Asiago cheese with a Dijon Mustard sauce)

Beyond those weekly specials, O’Hill is also proud of the changes it has made that can be seen daily.  This includes freshly made pizza dough, fresh pasta, and our rotating fruit salad – featuring items like fresh watermelon, strawberries, honeydew, cantaloupe, and grapes – over at the revamped fruit section.

Stop by Alderman Cafe tomorrow, March 21, between 4 and 5pm for a cup of free drip coffee!

UVa Dining and UVa Sustainability are celebrating RecycleMania and promoting good waste management practices by offering free coffee to anyone that brings their own mug to Alderman tomorrow afternoon. Come learn about RecycleMania, Green Dining, and UVa’s sustainability efforts while enjoying a cup of joe.

As an extra special treat, Greenberry’s will also be giving away 100 reusable mugs during tomorrow’s event - first come, first served!

Spring Break!

Are you staying on Grounds for Spring Break?  Whether you’ll be here to relax or to write your thesis (good luck!), we’ve got you covered on the food side of things.  The complete list of open locations and their hours can be found here:

Beyond Grounds (but still affiliated with your meal plan), you can use your Plus Dollars to order delivery from Domino’s Pizza and The Pita Pit! 

Meal Exchange will be available at participating locations for the hours for which they are open, with the exception of The Castle.  Here are their modified hours:

Saturday, March 3 through Thursday, March 8.  11 a.m – 2 p.m.

Friday, March 9. Closed for University Holiday.

Saturday, March 10. 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

(Meal Exchange Policy refresher: One swipe per hour; maximum two swipes per day for specified combos only.  Meal Exchange is only available to Meal Plan holders and is a temporary program for the 2011-2012 academic year.)

Leap Year at O’Hill!

2012 is a Leap Year, and Leap Day is tomorrow, Wednesday, February 29th.  Just think of everything you can do with that extra day: pack for spring break; catch up on sleep; study for midterms; and best of all, enjoy the Leap Day Theme Dinner at O’Hill!

O’Hill will be serving some Leap Day-appropriate items, inspired by the realization that if America were a Leap Year Baby, the year would be 1835.  The West would still be wild, Old Hickory (aka Andrew Jackson) would still be President of the United States, and our very own University would be a mere ten years old.  In honor of this throwback, come out and try some classic dishes from the mid-19th centry, including:

Italian Night at Newcomb!

It’s time for another theme dinner at Newcomb, and this evening Dining is taking you back to the Old Country with Italian Night.

You can start your way with il primo (first course), work your way through il secondo (main course), try il contorno (vegetable platter) on the side, and finish up with the delectable dolce (dessert course).  Picking and choosing is also a great way to enjoy your own personal highlights from the dining room!

Celebrate Mardi Gras!

Celebrate Mardi Gras tonight with a theme meal at Runk!  Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, signals the culmination of a celebratory period that includes delicious and traditional foods, and tonight’s dinner is no exception.  A number of New Orleans classics like Shrimp Po’ Boy, Dirty Rice and Gumbo, and King Cake will be featured throughout the dining room, with tons of other mouthwatering options for every taste preference available as well.

Free Chocolate Sampling Tomorrow (Valentine’s Day)

You don’t want to miss the chance to celebrate Valentine’s Day in style tomorrow! From 11-1, our friendly Dining Educators will be giving out free samples of Green & Black’s organic and Fair Trade certified chocolate right outside of Crossroads (where Green & Black’s is sold daily). The dark chocolate (70% cocoa content) and almond flavors will be featured. Come learn about Fair Trade certification and why it’s an important part of UVa Dining’s sustainability platform.
